Random Colour in Flash

Random Colour Effect

You may have already noticed this little test tube animation if you arrived at this page via the Flash Effects page of the site. You will note that the liquid spilling out of the test tube continually tweens from one random colour to another.

The effect is achieved by using the liquid shape layer as a mask. It masks a movie clip which is targetted by the actionscript to select random colours and tween between them.

This random colour effect can be used as a background, on buttons or in a mask. I have used it in a flash lavalamp once for Mathmos. By changing the alpha of the clip I was able to set random globules to move up and down inside a lavalamp shape whilst the colours changed... well mellow man!
